Sophie Darlington is a BAFTA and multi award winning natural history filmmaker and cinematographer who has been making wildlife feature films and television for more than 30 years. Her work is known for its empathetic use of light, deep knowledge of behaviour and composition that reflects and underscores a subject's journey throughout the story. Sophie has worked on many feature films for Disney Nature, BBC Earth and The Discovery Channel including Penguins, African Cats, Bears and Enchanted Kingdom 3D as well as landmark television series for The BBC, Netflix, National Geographic, CBS, PBS & The Discovery Channel including Dynasties I and II, Our Planet, The Hunt, Planet Earth II and Life Story, all narrated by the legendary Sir David Attenborough. Growing up in the UK, Ireland and Iran, at nineteen Sophie took off to Tanzania in East Africa where she met eight-time Emmy Winner & Cinematographer Hugo van Lawick. Hugo, renowned for his long term partnership with National Geographic and Jane Goodall, took Sophie on as a filming apprentice in the 1990’s where she spent several years learning the craft of natural history filmmaking on the Serengeti Plains. Sophie carries on his legacy today, in addition to filming she is actively and passionately involved in mentoring, public speaking & increasing diversity in wildlife filmmaking.
